Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Golden Doodle? Why would I want one?
The Golden Doodle has become one of the most sought after breeds of dogs in the United States today. Ironically, its a mixed breed dog, combining the intelligence and temperament of the Poodle with the loyalty, love and athleticism of the Golden Retriever. Thus they make excellent family dogs and companions. Golden Doodles also have earned the reputation of being hypoallergenic "non-shedding" dogs. (see below about coats)
We won't get into too much detail here about the breed. We assume since you are here and curious about our available puppies that you probably know a little about Golden Doodles. There is a lot of information at your finger tips, so if you would like to know more, click here.
What size can I expect a South Paw Standard Golden Doodle to be?
You can generally expect one of our pups to grow to be between 50 to 75 lbs. Also, keep in mind that adult males sometimes are slightly larger than the females.
Will my puppy have a non-shedding coat?
Golden Doodle breeders can not guarantee that their pups will be hypoallergenic (or "non-shedding"). However, our F1BB pups are bred so as to have the best chances of being exactly that. The Sire is a purebred Standard Poodle (non-shedding breed) with a very impressive pedigree, and the Dam is a non-shedding F1B Golden Doodle. Her offspring have ALL resulted in a non-shedding coat. Therefore, it is safe to assume that this will continue with the current litter, and future litters.
Do you offer breeding rights?
No, we do not offer breeding rights.
Do you require that my puppy be spay/neutered?
Yes, we do require that your puppy be fixed. According to our Health Guarantee contract you are required to Spay your female by 7 months of age and Neuter your male by 9 months of age. (We will defer to your personal Vet if he/she recommends on waiting until they are 12 months of age) Documentation of this being done must be emailed to us within 30 days of the procedure being done, or the Health Guarantee will be void.
How often do you have a litter available?
We pride ourselves on being a small "boutique". We currently have one Dam, and she is bred once a year. We do this more as a hobby, and we love Golden Doodles, and desire to share top quality Doodles with other families at affordable prices. It is possible that may add another female to our breeding program. If we decide to do that it may take up to a year to find that perfect puppy for our family, and then another 2 years for her to come online as a breeding dog. So for right now... ONE litter at a time! (And they go fast!)
How do I apply to get on the list for the current litter?
Fill out our Adoption Application and we will be in touch! Once you have been approved and paid your $200 non-refundable deposit*, you are on the list. First come first serve.
The list will have 8 slots. If litter size ends up being greater than 8
then additional slots will be added after the litter is born.
* Deposit refund exceptions will be given under the following conditions:
litter size is less than 8, in which case the folks on the bottom of the list will receive a refund and taken off the list. Example: litter size is 6, last two people on the list will be refunded their deposit.
